The criminology and criminal justice program at SIU prepares students for a number of careers in the study of criminal law, corrections, forensic sciences, court systems and victim advocacy. With real-world experience handed down by faculty members enthusiastic about the future of criminology and criminal justice, successful graduates enter the workforce with an advanced level of expertise.

The curriculum in the criminology and criminal justice department offers a wide range of courses that provide students with superb critical thinking and communication skills. Successful graduates are prepared for work in a variety of criminology and criminal justice fields and have a firm foundation for graduate and Ph.D. studies.

Bachelor's Program

Students ready to explore an education in law enforcement, state and Federal court systems, corrections, investigations or juvenile justice receive top notch instruction from skilled and knowledgeable instructors in all facets of criminology and criminal justice.

A bachelor’s degree in criminology and criminal justice is the foundation for a profitable and rewarding career or a step on the path to an advanced degree.

A dual degree with the School of Law is available allowing students to earn their bachelor’s degree and law degree in six years, saving both time and money.

Master's Program

The Master of Arts degree in criminology and criminal justice provides students with advanced theoretical and empirical knowledge and enhanced proficiency in analytical and problem solving skills needed to succeed in a wide range of criminal justice careers.

The CCJ program also offers an accelerated master’s degree program wherein undergraduates are able to complete both the B.A. and M.A. in as little as five years. This accelerated program not only saves time but also lowers tuition costs by combining undergraduate work with graduate seminars and electives.    

Doctoral Program

Our program focuses on analyzing criminal justice, social justice, and crime prevention problems and solutions. This prepares graduates with the analytic capabilities, problem-solving skills, and teaching competencies for professional careers in criminal justice and related agencies, in policy analysis and research, and in academic settings.
